Paul grew up on the family farm surrounded by horses and ponies and his weekends were spent hunting, competing or point to pointing with his parents which sparked of his love of racing.

He rode as a National Hunt jockey for ten years but after battling constantly with his weight he finally called it a day.  Towards the end of his riding career he was already breaking in and pre training so it was a natural progression to start training himself.

Since joining the training ranks in September 2003 Paul has enjoyed a lot of success especially with his sprinters and is renowned for keeping them happy and able to perform year after year.  Not only has Paul gained plenty of winners in this country he has also had a lot of success in Ireland and in Dubai.   Two of his biggest achievements are winning twice at the world cup carnival in Dubai with Final Venture and winning the Epsom Dash twice, firstly in 2015 with Desert Law and again in 2018 with Tanasoq.

Since he took out his licence a great team of staff and family has been an integral part of Paul’s achievements over the years. Wendy his wife and assistant trainer plays a large role in the running of the business and both his parents have worked alongside helping wherever they can from the very beginning of his career.
